I was trying to figure out exactly where Diamond Township was in Burke County. I believe it was close to Coteau. My grandmother Sylvia Shaw was born there, and I wanted to become more familiar with her place of birth.

I am writing in regards to relatives in the Burke County area. My grandmother & grandfather lived in Lignite for many years. My grandmother was Anna Marie Hedstrup (Caussyn)who married my grandfather Edward H. Hedstrup on April 6, 1936. They had 4 children, Mary, Myrtle (my mom),Larry, & Harry. Harry died in a car accident in 1971 at the age of 20. My great grandfather was Charles Caussyn, he married Elodie Calsyn. If anyone has information about the rest of my relatives, please drop me a line. AMPittman@hotmail.com I know I do have quite an extensive family, that I would love to get to know.

We drove through Burke County while on a vacation. We stopped at Portal on Jun 9, 2004 We were working on my genealogy, as my GG-Grandaunt Johanna (HICKEY) MYERS moved to Short Creek twp. in 1900 when she and her husband Joseph Myers homesteaded there. We stopped in at the Ammex Tax & Duty Free shop and the ladies there were very helpful, directing us to the Catholic cemetery where Johanna was buried. We took digital photos of the cemetery, family graves and the Catholic church there in Portal. Time did not allow us to get to the courthouse before they closed, but we did get photos of the courthouse as well. It was very interesting to see the area there in Burke County where Johanna and her family lived. I would love to hear from any living descendant of Joseph and Johanna (Hickey) Myers.
